Engine Submission Services
A few years ago, search engine submission services were somewhat popular. These services charged you money to submit your site to thousands of search engines and directories, sometimes on a monthly basis (which sounds ridiculous if you think about it now).
I don't think anyone uses these services anymore, but if you are thinking of trying a search engine submission service, don't.
Here's why:
- There are only a handful of search engines that matter. Submitting to thousands of search engines or directories won't help your site at all.
- The most important search engines will find your site on their own, as long as there are links to them from at least one site already listed with a search engine.
- Many search engines discourage or ignore submissions from automated services.
So why do people use these services? In my opinion, it is mostly because novice webmasters feel insecure and want some sort of guarantee that their site gets listed.
Problem solved. Just follow these techniques and you will be listed:
- Create a link from a free blog
Get a free blog on Blogger or Wordpress, make a post and link to your site from it. Search engines love blogs and having a link from a blog will get you indexed quickly.
- Get links from other sites
Find other sites to link to you. For the purposes of getting listed, these links can come from web directories in a category related to your site. Just do a search on Google and you should find a place that will list you.
- Create social bookmarks to your site.
Just join a few social bookmarking sites like stumbleupon or delicious.com, then bookmark your site.
- Twitter
Join twitter, follow a few popular people, then tweet your new domain.
- Create a Google or Youtube account, and put your domain in the URL field.
Do these things and you will most likely be listed in under a week for Google. Sometimes Yahoo takes longer, but you can go to this page and submit to Yahoo separately. You will usually get listed on Yahoo within a couple days after that.
If you want traffic to your site immediately, consider Pay per click advertising as well.
